MASTER OF SCIENCE IN DECISION SCIENCE (MIXED MODE)

The programme is designed to promote profesional development of researchers, academicians, and other involved in decision-making processes. Decision Science profesionals are relevant in many fields such as manufacturing, marketing, banking, finance, logistics, healthcare, transportation, telecommunication, forestry, military, and energy, among others.

  • To provide graduates with a strong scientific and quantitative knowledge.

  • To train graduates to have skills in problem solving through model development, analysis and communication to meet industries's need.

  • To equip graduates with the ability to carry out quantitative decision making research under supervision.

  • To promote graduates who are professional in making decisions.

Applicants must possess;

  1. A Bachelor’s degree with Honours from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 2.75; OR

  2. A Bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of 2.00 to 2.74 and relevant work experience; OR

  3. A Diploma from any institution of higher learning recognized by the University Senate with at least ten (10) years of relevant work experience, aged 35 years or older and passed APEL assessment (level 7); OR

  4. Any other equivalent qualifications recognised by the University Senate; AND

  5. Fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate.

This programme is offered by coursework and dissertation (mixed mode). Students are required to complete 40 credit hours, which comprises the following:

Core Courses (20 credit hours)

  • Business Programming using Visual Tools
  • Business Intelligence and Analytics for Decision Support
  • Simulation for Decision Making
  • Operational Research
  • Heuristics Techniques for Combinatorial Optimization Problems
  • Research Methodology

Dissertation (20 credit hours)

  • Small scale of research to solve industrial problem using any decision science techniques that will be supervised by at least one expert from SQS.

I. STUDENT FEE

Students are categorized based on nationality as Malaysian, ASEAN, and Non-ASEAN and are charged accordingly. Upon being accepted by the University, students shall make arrangements for their financial support and the payment of Student Fee throughout their study at the University. The Student Fee comprises of registration, tuition, accommodation and services. The Student Fee may be revised from time to time with prior notice being given to students. The Student Fee shall be paid within two (2) weeks after the commencement of each semester. Sponsored student must submit the Sponsorship Letter from the sponsor upon registration. The letter must clearly state the type of the fee covered under the sponsorship (such as registration, tuition, accommodation and services). Payment for campus accommodation may be arranged separately. UUM Student Fee is as listed below:
