Undergraduate Programmes

There are three undergraduate programmes currently being offered in SQS and they are:

  1. Bachelor of Science with Honours (Decision Science) (B.Sc. (Dec. Sc.) (Hons))
    Decision Science is a discipline of applying advanced analytical methods to help make better decisions. Decision Science knowledge can be applied in virtually every area of business and government, from health care, transportation, city planning, to manufacturing, finance and marketing. Thus, this program aims to produce students who possess knowledge and skills for scientific decision making; possess sufficient knowledge in integrating other field areas such as economy, management, humanities, as well as having knowledge in quantitative science; and apply the knowledge through practical and other lifelong learning activities. The structure of the program consists of three major parts; courses, co-curricular activities and practicum. It is structured to encourage a multi-disciplinary approach in enhancing and enriching the personal development through programming, decision support systems, simulation techniques, operational research, heuristic techniques, and research methodology. The graduates who possess qualification in this field will be able to find a stimulating and rewarding career in many potential fields especially in organizations which face challenging decision making situations where they require skilled people who can integrate many fields and equipped with good analytical skills in order to make better decisions.

    Programme Learning Outcome Domain:

    LOD 1

    Apply knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, operational research/decision science and operation management, as well as information and communication technology (ICT).

    LOD 2

    Design, model and solve real world and hypothetical problems, and thus able to analyse and interpret data using contemporary computer tools.

    LOD 3

    Use quantitative techniques, modelling skills and contemporary decision science tools for industries, public institution and society.

    LOD 4

    Communicate effectively orally, graphically and in writing, and function in culturally diverse, gender-diverse and multi-disciplinary teams.

    LOD 5

    Integrate and synthesize organisational issues, and evaluate potential solutions in the broader context of the organisation or society.

    LOD 6

    Participate in lifelong learning, career advancement activities, and keep up-to-date with knowledge of emerging technologies.

    LOD 7

    Commercialise tangible and intangible decision making products, in the form of written, oral and electronic media.

    LOD 8

    Carry out professional and ethical responsibility.

    LOD 9

    Portray leadership and accountability, and exercising management and decision making skills.

  2. Bachelor of Science with Honours (Industrial Statistics) (B.Sc. (Ind. Stats.) (Hons))
    The Bachelor of Industrial Statistics (Honours) at the Universiti Utara Malaysia College of Arts & Sciences (UUM CAS) in Malaysia is a 135-credit hour (at least) education programme in the field of industrial statistics.
    UUM CAS' 4-year Bachelor of Industrial Statistics (Honours) equips students with the knowledge necessary to make decisions using statistical techniques. Students gain an in-depth understanding of statistical techniques, software technology as well as of management in the focused of transportation, manufacturing and services industry.
    Upon completion of the Bachelor of Industrial Statistics (Honours), graduates are well-prepared to launch successful careers as industrial statistics, working as, for instance, statisticians, bank officers, quality assurance engineers, data analysts, or production engineers.

    LOD 1 To gain knowledge and exposure of statistics and industries.
    LOD 2 To be able to apply theories, concepts, principles and methods of statistics in focussed industries namely logistics, manufacturing and other sectors that
              involve research and development (R&D).
    LOD 3 To be able to perform statistical analyses critically and analytically, while evaluating and solving problems scientifically.
    LOD 4 To communicate and cooperate effectively in a community to solve problems scientifically.
    LOD 5 To possess good interaction skills and be responsible in decision making.
    LOD 6 To practise professionalism, noble and good ethics in fulfilling the industrial needs of the country.
    LOD 7 To be adept at managing information and seeking for job opportunities and -life-long learning for enhanced professionalism.
    LOD 8 To practise managing skills and entrepreneurship skills in planning and decision making.
    LOD 9 To produce leaders who possess high accountability in executing responsibilities.

  3. Bachelor of Science with Honours (Business Mathematics) (B.Sc. (Bus. Math.) (Hons))
    The Bachelor of Business Mathematics (Honours) at the Universiti Utara Malaysia College Arts & Sciences (UUM CAS) in Malaysia is a 122-credit education programme in the field of business mathematics.

    UUM CAS' Bachelor of Business Mathematics (Honours) provides students with quantitative problem-solving skills such as algebra, statistics, and calculus. Students gain the ability to apply mathematical methods, concepts, and principles to areas such as business and finance. Students construct appropriate mathematical arguments in order to create mathematical models.


    Programme Learning Outcome Domain:
    LOD 1
    Acquire knowledge of mathematical concepts and theory.
    LOD 2 Apply problem solving skills using mathematical methods and concepts in related fields.
    LOD 3 Analyse mathematical problems critically and systematically, as well as selecting precise and comprehensive solution.
    LOD 4 Communicate effectively with peers, clients, superiors and society.
    LOD 5 Practice social skills through consultations, interviews and counselling and also be willing to accept guidance and responsibility.
    LOD 6 Apply information management and engage in the pursuit of lifelong learning.
    LOD 7 Able to manage and acquire entrepreneurial skills.
    LOD 8 Solve mathematical problems systematically, analytically, transparently, and ethically.
    LOD 9 Demonstrate leadership and accountability in the aspects of management and mathematical skills.

* The Bachelor of Science (Decision Science), Bachelor of Science (Industrial Statistics) and Bachelor of Science (Business Mathematics) programmes are offered on full time basis over a minimum duration of four years, equivalent to eight academic semesters.
