#PLANAHEAD TALK: EMBRACING CHALLENGES TO ESTABLISH CAREER IN THE ERA OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Sintok, 25 October 2020 - Covid-19 is having a profound and damaging impact on the global economy. Many countries are reporting dramatic rises in the unemployment level. There is a concern that this change has a disproportionate effect on students of Universiti Utara Malaysia and other universities especially those currently in their final year. Due to such circumstance, Quantitative Sciences Association (QUSAC) has organized an event #PlanAhead Talk: Embracing Challenges to Establish Career in The Era of Covid-19 Pandemic as a platform for disseminating knowledge and useful guidelines for those affected during the pandemic.

The four panellists who are the alumni of School of Quantitative Sciences (SQS) have been invited from a number of sections in the industry. They are Tan Lian Chuan, a Quality Control Engineer from Murata Electronic Singapore Pte Ltd, Loh Mun Yee, a Project Executive from Lifewood Kuala Lumpur, Vilerry Mollon, a Human Resources Representative from Schlumberger HQ, Houston, Texas USA and Nur Shahirah Shaharani, a Data Analyst from BIIT Consulting Kuala Lumpur. All four of the panellists have been successful in rising to important or leadership positions and began the session by telling their inspiring career stories. They also offered essential tips and guides on how to stand out and visible to potential employers out there during the crisis, what are the do’s and don’ts in the effort of going visible, the things that should be highlighted on the official online profile such as LinkedIn, and gave recommendations on how juniors can value add their professional competence and knowledge while going through their career-hunting journey.

As highlighted by a viewer from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Margerate said that “I was having a great time watching this talk. The flow of the information sharing was delivered smoothly, very informative, plus it was fun!”. For Nur Amirah Sofea as the moderator of the talk, she commented that “It is hoped that through this program, students and recent graduates out there are able to raise their awareness on the do’s and don’ts in the job-seeking journey as well as important skills that they need to develop from now on for the sake of their future”.

For those who have missed out this useful sharing, there is still the opportunity to watch the recorded FB Live Stream event at: https://www.facebook.com/qusacsqsuum/live/
