SQS LECTURERS AS KEYNOTE SPEAKERS AT UNIVERSITY SANTO TOMAS, PHILIPPINES

Manila, 29 Nov: School of Quantitative Sciences (SQS) were honoured when two lecturers (Professor Dr. Haslinda Ibrahim and Associate Professor Dr Nazrina Aziz) have been invited as the Keynote Speakers at the 24th Rev. Fr. Ciriaco Pedrosa, O.P. Memorial Lecture at Central Laboratory Auditorium, University of Santo Tomas (UST). The event was held on 29th November 2019 in Manila, Phillippines. It was aimed to encourage high school students from all over the country to pursue undergraduate studies in Mathematics or Physics by inviting international and local speakers to share their expertise. They also shared the stage with other keynote speakers including Prof. Dr. Wu-Ching Chou (National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan), Asst. Prof. Dr. Noel Fortun (De La Salle University, Manila), Prof. Dr. Ernest Macalalad (Mapua University, Manila) and Mr. Arthur Hung (National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan).

As representative of School of Quantitative Sciences, Universiti Utara Malaysia (SQS UUM), Professor Dr. Haslinda used this opportunity to initiate a collaboration with University of Santo Tomas (UST). In a small ceremony, she handed over the Letter of Intent (LOI) to Prof Dr Carlota Decena, Deputy Dean of College of Science, UST. It was witnessed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nazrina Aziz (SQS UUM), Dr. Karen Santiago (Deputy Director of International Program & Relations, UST), Prof Enrico Yambao (Chair of the Department of Mathematics & Physics, UST) and lecturers in the Department of Mathematics & Physics, UST. In the event, they also discussed future activities in quantitative fields including collaboration on research and academic programs, encourage the staff & students mobility, etc.
